Fayette County Schools board hears updates on Midland Trail construction; fields targeted for spring 2026

Facilities director Mr. Peyton told the Fayette County Schools board that permitting issues affecting Midland Trail have been resolved and construction is moving forward.
“Permits were reissued and we’re back on track,” Mr. Peyton said, reporting that slabs are being poured at Midland Trail Elementary and that work on a gymnasium wing and classrooms is progressing. He showed photos of the site and described ongoing punch-list work at Meta Bridge.
He also reviewed progress on outdoor facilities: drainage work is complete on the softball field, pole bases for light fixtures are installed, and topsoil is being graded on the baseball field. Mr. Peyton said the district plans to use sod where feasible and that turfing or sod installation will be timed to favorable weather; “you won’t see sod go down until late October probably,” he said.
Board members discussed travel and scheduling considerations for athletics during construction and postseason play. Coach Ray and other members urged principals, athletic directors and the transportation director to coordinate closely so student travel is as limited and safe as possible.
Mr. Peyton said the district’s target is for students to be able to use the renovated fields in spring 2026, though he cautioned scheduling and weather are variables.
The board did not take action on construction funding during the update; members asked staff to continue providing site photos and timelines as work advances.
