Jordan Floyd, a member of the Fit Media multimedia class, said students are partnering with Fayette County Schools to produce culture-and-climate videos aimed at informing staff and the community. "We're really excited about this opportunity because it will help us improve our videography skills and practice doing more professional work," Floyd said.
Don Dly, director of elementary schools and assessment for Fayette County Schools, described the district's existing channels and plans for broader social outreach. Dly said central office uses Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and is discussing launching a TikTok account "to showcase the innovative, creative and fun things that Fayette County Schools do." He encouraged the community to like and share district pages.
Carter, a Fit Media student who leads the Devils Den Instagram page, said there are multiple school-run social pages across the district that help keep students and families informed. He described a digital newsletter platform called S'more that principals and central office staff use to send short weekly updates. "We try to send out a weekly newsletter that will provide information that we feel is important to our...mission," Carter said, adding that Miss Hedrick provides S'mores on attendance and that other administrators use the tool for messages better suited to a brief newsletter than email.
The students said the video project will offer hands-on experience and help the district highlight school activities. Carter invited any school without a S'more license to contact him so the principal can be set up to send the newsletter.
No motions or votes were recorded in the session.
