Spooner Area School District board approves hires, accepts donations and renews $2 million line of credit

Board members accepted multiple donations offered to district programs. The gifts included lawn-care services from B Boys Lawn Care (Brad Jebson) to the middle-school football program; a football shooting aid from Hopwood Enterprises for the high-school boys hockey team; jerseys and socks valued at $1,332 from Indian Head Credit Union; assorted cleaning and protective supplies from an anonymous donor for Spooner Middle School STEM classes and teachers; and a $282 donation from the Spooner High School Class of 1964. The board approved four fundraiser requests from school groups. The athletic department seeks to sell advertising on the new scoreboard in September to raise approximately $2,000 for equipment and uniforms. The spirit club and Spanish club plan a concession stand at Cranberry Fest on Oct. 5, targeting about $1,200 to support club activities. The Spooner High School Art Club proposed its annual silent auction to raise roughly $1,200 for art supplies. The Spooner High School Esports program requested donations through Nov. 1 to cover coaching stipends, league memberships, online subscriptions and equipment; the meeting transcript lists an unclear target amount for that effort.
On district finances, the board approved renewing a short-term $2 million line of credit with Citizens Community Federal Bank to cover an anticipated cash shortfall at the end of November or early December. According to district staff, the loan is expected to be repaid in full in early January to avoid significant interest charges.
The board also approved a one-year Middle School yearbook contract with Wallsworth for the 2024–25 school year, noting Wallsworth has been the vendor for several years and has helped keep production costs down for students. In policy business, the board approved revisions to Neola policies 3112 and 4112 to soften punitive wording around board–staff communications and waived a second reading. It then approved the second reading of Neola policy volume 33, number 1 (group two), which the board had reviewed at the prior meeting.
