Board tables towing and short-term rental ordinances, hears department reports and enters executive session

Department updates: Road Department supervisor Madison Smith reported completion of ditch work, dirt road maintenance, culvert repairs including FEMA-related work and rescheduled paving projects. Recreation supervisor Tammy Goober said the recent touch-a-truck event drew about 980 attendees. Elections supervisor Cersha Snell reported that printed ballots have been received and sorted, over 300 voters have been processed and early voting will run April 27–May 15 with two Saturday sessions on May 2 and May 9. Fire/EMA reported 170 total calls in March including vehicle accidents and fires. Animal Control/Code Enforcement supervisor Austin Maynard reported 54 animal intakes in March, 19 returned to owners, 12 transferred and one adopted; the shelter houses about 34 animals.
Formal actions: In old business the Board revisited Towing Ordinance 2026-02 and Commissioner Gerald Blocker moved to table the ordinance until a Called Meeting on April 9, 2026; Commissioner James Craft seconded and the motion passed unanimously. In new business the Board discussed Short Term Rentals/Airbnb Ordinance 2026-03, noting concerns about uncollected tax revenue in unincorporated areas; Commissioner Blocker moved and Commissioner Benji Strickland seconded a motion to table Ordinance 2026-03 until the May meeting; that motion passed unanimously.
Executive session and adjournment: Commissioner James Craft moved to enter executive session for litigation (seconded by Commissioner John Reddish) and the Board later moved to exit executive session and return to regular session; both motions passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned on a unanimous motion and the minutes were adopted May 5.
No votes to adopt ordinances or to change county policy were taken during the meeting; both ordinance items were tabled for further review.
