The Tempe School District governing board voted May 6 to adopt the district’s 2026–27 interest‑based negotiation (IBN) agreement and the related classroom site fund plan after administration reported overwhelming employee ratification.
COO Michael Mangini told the board the district’s IBN team reviewed thousands of staff comments, evaluated proposals for administrative feasibility and affordability, and recommended a package that includes a 2% raise for all certified and classified employees. He said the staff ratification vote on the IBN agreement was nearly 97% in favor, and the classroom site fund plan passed staff ratification at about 98.85%.
Mangini said the team also recommended addressing several nutrition services managers as a separate group this cycle and that miscellaneous rate schedules and stipend rates were updated. He told trustees the district will absorb a $300 increase in insurance trust contribution so employees will not see an out‑of‑pocket premium increase for the plan offerings.
Board members asked about custodial staff amid outsourcing arrangements. Mangini said night custodians are part of an outsourcing transition but will still receive the 2% increase; the outsourced vendor has met with impacted employees and conducted onboarding and orientation. Trustees also asked about competitive salaries for specialized positions; administrators noted ongoing market compensation work and a pending market study due in July.
Outcome: Miss Eures moved to approve the 26‑27 IBN agreement and the classroom site fund plan; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. Administrators said HR and finance will implement pay and schedule updates per the ratified agreement.
