Board honors Tammy Goober and says state will fund $1.9M library expansion

At the April 7 meeting the Long County Board of Commissioners presented an honorary resolution naming Tammy Goober an Honorary Long County Commissioner in recognition of her service as Library Manager and decades of community involvement. Goober provided an update on library operations and on plans for an expansion.
She reported that the library has been awarded a $1.9 million capital outlay through the state legislature to fund additions including a meeting room, community conference room, storage space and restrooms. The county and Goober noted the project is fully funded through the state and will not require local taxpayer funding; the expansion was acknowledged as having support from Senator Blake Tillery and Representative Buddy Deloach. The project is expected to begin after the fall with a targeted completion next summer.
Board members expressed appreciation for Goober’s service and for the funding secured. No local funding commitment was requested or approved at the meeting.
