Council backs staff proceeding with grant-funded lighting retrofit and continues BRIC brick renovation work

For the interior lighting retrofit, a prior bid from Ultralite (out of Tucson) was about $40,000 but could not proceed because Ultralite lacks a Utah license. Staff said they then worked with a local contractor (Wyld Northern Electric), which revised a bid to $24,984.04 to retrofit the building's fixtures; staff noted the town has $27,000 in a grant that covers the work. The council expressed comfort allowing staff to move forward with the local bid and to submit the invoice for grant reimbursement rather than requiring a formal vote that evening.
Councilors asked whether other quotes were available; staff said an additional firm (Williams Electric) had a higher bid and that the updated local bid represented the best option among responsive, eligible contractors. Council members emphasized support for local contractors and timely spending to meet grant conditions.
Next steps: staff will finalize procurement documents, proceed with the retrofit, and request reimbursement through the grant program once work is paid. BRIC spending and bonding figures will return to the council when confirmed.
