The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners recognized six middle and high school students with the Board of County Commissioners Youth Excellence and Achievement Awards — known as the YEA Awards — at its Oct. 15 meeting.
Katie with Hillsborough County Communications and Digital Media said the program, now in its 15th year, honors young people for positive contributions in academics, community service and the performing arts. Awards were given in categories including leadership, volunteer or community service, and success despite difficult odds.
The board presented the awards to middle and high school students to acknowledge leadership and community contributions. The recognition is intended to highlight student achievements across Hillsborough County schools and encourage continued civic and academic engagement.
The board's next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 9 a.m.; meetings are streamed live on YouTube and further county information is available at hcfl.gov.
