County approves stormwater change orders and moves to negotiate CDBG-DR contracts

Hillsborough County commissioners on Nov. 5 approved two change orders for ongoing and as-needed stormwater culvert and construction-related services covering eastern and western parts of the county and authorized staff to negotiate with the two firms the board deemed best qualified to implement the county's federally funded Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program.
Katie, a communications staffer with Hillsborough County Communications and Digital Media, said the board approved the procurement actions as part of efforts to repair and proactively replace aged and failing stormwater infrastructure to protect people and property. County staff told the board the number of emergency stormwater projects has increased significantly following recent hurricane seasons.
The county report noted that, in response to federally declared disasters after hurricanes Helene and Milton, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development allocated more than 709,000,000 in CDBG-DR funding to support long-term recovery and address unmet needs in Hillsborough County. According to the county, those funds are intended to support low- to moderate-income residents in the most impacted and distressed areas.
