Public commenter urges CERT support; committee schedules food-truck briefing

During public comment, Leroy Shabazz, who identified himself as an Ohio CERT instructor and Everson Committee safety chairman, asked the committee to support Community Emergency Response Teams and offered to teach CERT courses locally after forming a nonprofit with seed funding.
Chair Scotty Johnson thanked Shabazz, noted the Cincinnati Fire Department has historically sponsored CERT work, and directed Shabazz to meet with staff in the chair’s office to connect with the department’s liaison.
Separately, the committee discussed an expected presentation on food-truck operating hours. Vice Mayor Michelle Lemon Kearney said that in the Over-the-Rhine (OTR) district the permitted closing hour for food trucks is now 11 p.m. and some owners say that harms their business. Kearney said the administration’s intent was to avoid late-night congregation by bars and suggested outreach to food-truck owners to gather feedback.
Committee member Anna Albee urged the administration to put the food-truck item on a future agenda so public-safety data and other evidence can be reviewed; the committee did not take action on food trucks at this meeting.
