Cincinnati City Council on Monday honored Melissa Autry with a unanimous resolution recognizing her 31 years of service in the Clerk of Council's office and presented her with a key to the city. Vice Mayor Kearney read the resolution, citing Autry's leadership in digitizing council records, creating a handbook for new officials and serving as a long‑standing resource for mayors and council members.
"You keep us out of trouble, and I just appreciate that," Vice Mayor Kearney said while introducing the resolution. The text noted Autry was appointed clerk of council on Dec. 1, 2001, and described her as the first woman to hold the post.
Autry accepted the recognition and thanked her staff, saying their work running late and early hours made the council function. Council members offered tributes noting Autry's institutional knowledge and the continuity she provided through administrations. "Any organization is only as strong as its people," Council member Nolan said, thanking Autry for her support.
Council recorded roll call votes on the resolution and it passed unanimously. A reception for Autry was announced to follow the meeting in the Mayor Ted Berry Conference Room.
