The change prompted debate about governance and the role of community committees. One board member argued the proposal closed a “loophole” in prior practice; Superintendent Dr. Green pushed back, saying, “I think it’s misleading to say it’s a loophole,” and emphasized operational concerns about leaving buildings without principals if positions are reposted at inopportune times.
Several board members and committee participants said the committee process remains valuable as a screening step, while others warned that embedding overly prescriptive committee requirements in policy could transfer hiring authority away from the superintendent. The final vote to adopt the revisions was unanimous.
