A district policy presenter summarized four principal changes: the board would designate a district civil rights coordinator as required under House Bill 2281; the district would replace and consolidate several procurement policies into a single procurement policy with updated monetary thresholds consistent with House Bill 1047 (effective Jan. 1, 2024); the sexual-harassment definition in district policy would be revised to incorporate new statutory definitions of consent and assault; and the district would adopt a revised fingerprinting policy that designates a statewide vendor for fingerprint collection and clarifies which volunteers must submit fingerprints.
“I currently serve as the Civil Rights coordinator for the district,” the presenter said, recommending that the board place that contact in the policy so staff, students and parents have a clear point of contact. The presenter described the procurement rewrite as consolidating several policies and updating amounts that trigger competitive bidding.
Board members asked clarifying questions about why certain alternative programs were listed in informational packets and how proposed procurement thresholds would affect local contracting; staff said the list of alternative programs is informational and reflected programs the district may use for students with specialized needs. No final policy action was taken; the presenter said the packet will move to the action section on the next agenda for formal adoption.
