Board clears IU Health West Lafayette site grading plan; pond to discharge to Hadley Lake Legal Drain

The Tippecanoe County Drainage Board on April 1 approved the IU Health West Lafayette mass-grading plan, clearing a 22.41-acre site at W 500 N and Yeager Road for mass grading and utility installation.
Megan Irving of American Structurepoint said the plan includes mass grading, sanitary and water mains and stormwater infrastructure. The proposed drainage design directs most site runoff to a wet detention pond at the southwest corner of the property with about 19 acre-feet of storage; the pond will outlet to the Hadley Lake Legal Drain and is intended to provide both storage and water-quality treatment through associated forebays. Irving said off-site runoff will be conveyed to the proposed pond.
County Surveyor Zachariah Beasley noted that the Grant Cole Legal Drain in the area was not immediately located during review but could be encountered during construction; he instructed that if it is encountered it must be tied into the as-built plans and the Surveyor’s Office be notified. The applicant and county staff said the project will not add fill to the existing zone AE floodplain.
David S. Byers moved to approve the Christopher B. Burke Engineering memo dated March 20, 2026; Thomas P. Murtaugh seconded the motion, which the board recorded as passed in the minutes. The minutes do not include a roll-call tally.
