Brownsville calendar: Classic Loop Ride, Good Neighbor Day, Juneteenth plans and officer retirements

Organizers and city staff used the April 14 meeting to remind the board of several upcoming events and to recognize public-safety retirements.
An events presenter described two June 6 events: a Classic Loop Ride with three routes (25, 40 and 62 miles), and a concurrent Good Neighbor Day with children's activities, a one-mile kids'bike ride at Deerfield Park (four laps of a quarter-mile track), bouncy houses, games and giveaways. Organizers said the sheriff's office will provide deputy coverage for safety and that liability insurance and permits were in place.
The Mayor also announced a Juneteenth breakfast and program scheduled for June 19, 2026 with events at First Baptist Church and music during the lunch hour (11 a.m. ' 2 p.m.). Exit 56's 16th annual Blues Fest was promoted for June 22'24 with a kickoff at the Uptown Alley venue and local performances.
The Mayor recognized Lieutenant Peoples and Chief Evans for nearly 20 years of service to the Brownsville Police Department. Speakers expressed appreciation; one participant said of the retiring officer, "Anything we need done, he's right to it," and the Mayor and others thanked the officers for their service.
These items were presented as community updates and were moved through the agenda with motions to approve event permits where appropriate.
