Council asks administration for report on sidewalk snow-and-ice removal policy

"We obviously just had another big snowfall, and we did a fantastic job getting the roads cleared, but we also want to have a pedestrian-friendly city," Council member Walsh said, framing the motion as a safety and equity exercise.
Speakers noted state law makes property owners responsible for their portion of sidewalk, but council members asked the administration to examine public‑side responsibilities, compliance around parks and rec centers, and how to avoid punitive measures for vulnerable residents. The motion passed unanimously on roll call.
Council asked the administration to review best practices from other cities and to include equity considerations in any recommendations.
