Cincinnati City Council on Feb. 25 approved amended motions to allocate $100,000 to the Center for Closing the Health Gap to support its annual health expo and to allocate $350,000 to Habitat for Humanity for construction of nine single‑family homes on vacant lots in the West End.
Vice Mayor Kearney described the health expo as a life‑saving event that draws an estimated 10,000–14,000 attendees and offers hundreds of free health screenings and workshops. She said the $100,000 may come from the special events carryover or another funding source identified by the administration and that the expo date was moved to April 25, 2026.
On housing, the vice mayor said Habitat had acquired nine vacant lots in the West End and plans to build nine homes to expand affordable homeownership in a neighborhood with homeownership rates far lower than city averages.
Separately, council adopted a resolution recognizing entrepreneur Derek Bridal for leadership in the local small‑business ecosystem and his work with Mortar; council members praised his mentoring of entrepreneurs and his restaurant Pata Roja.
Both funding motions passed by roll call; council gave administration flexibility to identify the funding source.
