The Maryville Police Pension Board voted May 12, 2026, to classify Officer Spencer D. Benedetti's impairment as Class 1 after the board reviewed information provided by the officer and his attorney.
The action came during the board's "old business" agenda item on the pension board's May 12 meeting. A trustee moved to designate the impairment Class 1; the motion was recorded as made by Trustee Beal and seconded by Trustee Ray Smith. The board then conducted a roll-call vote. Trustees Joseph Cooper, Curtis Menchuck (recorded as Curtis Michuk in one roll-call line), Derek Deal, Ray Smith and Chair Nick Burzak voted "aye," and the motion carried.
Board members noted they had received materials from Officer d. Benedetti and his attorney in advance. The board recorded on the record that the officer had requested a Class 1 designation for his impairment.
During new business a trustee asked whether, given the board's determination and the officer's stated restrictions, any reasonable accommodations consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act were available or whether light-duty positions existed for Officer d. Benedetti. The board member on the record replied, "No," and stated there were no positions compatible with the officer's restrictions.
No amendments to the motion were offered, and no additional votes on the matter were recorded. The board completed other routine business, held a voice vote to approve meeting minutes from Feb. 17, 2026, and adjourned at 3:07 p.m.
