The Waunakee Plan Commission approved a site plan for a small two-story addition at Scientific Protein Laboratories, 700 East Main, subject to resolution of minor engineering comments.
"They're filling in kind of dead space," Keith Barron, a structural engineer with Strand Associates and a member of the design team, said, describing the area to be built on and confirming an existing diesel generator will be relocated. Staff told the commission the addition will match the existing facade and is located on the south side of the building where it will be less visible from the public right of way.
Staff recommended approval, noting only a few minor engineering comments remain to be addressed. Commissioners asked whether the existing driveway width will change (staff said it will not) and whether an outside seating area or other site features needed relocation; the design team confirmed the work mostly replaces lawn area and does not reduce parking or change driveway width.
The commission approved the application on a motion and second, with the approval recorded as subject to staff and engineering clarifications.
