Chair moves to update building‑inspections report; committee adds enforcement status in amendment

The Youth and Human Services Committee voted to place on the council agenda an amended request that city administration update and expand the Department of Building & Inspections (BNI) code report from 2024.

The chair moved that administration provide updated statistical information on complaints, cases and chronic offenders identified in the prior BNI report and present the results to city council. Vice Chair Evan Nolan offered a friendly amendment to add a second report documenting three items: the enforcement actions taken, the response to those enforcement actions, and the current status of the orders identified in the 2024 BNI code report. “The amendment would be to add … the enforcement actions that have been taken, the response to such enforcement actions taken, and the current status of the orders identified in that Department of Building and Inspections code report 2024,” Nolan said.

A committee member seconded the amendment and the chair called for a roll call; the transcript records affirmative responses from Council Member Albee, Council Member Nolan and Vice Mayor J. Michelle Limon Kearney. The chair said, “Without objection, we'll put the amended motion on for passage for tomorrow,” scheduling the expanded report for formal consideration rather than adopting it at the meeting.

Committee members thanked Director Dahlberg (present in the audience) for the work of the building inspections staff and noted that the requested follow‑up will help the council track enforcement and case outcomes. The committee did not adopt a final finding or policy at this meeting; the item will return to the council agenda for potential passage tomorrow.
