Cincinnati to accept nearly $5 million EPA recycling grant to replace city recycling carts

"This grant is earmarked to replace up to 80,000 recycling carts currently in use in the city," a staff member said, adding that the city has been awarded the funding after applying for federal support for recycling infrastructure.
Council members welcomed the news. One member noted the city already has about 100,000 recycling carts in circulation and commended the administration for pursuing federal funds to offset local costs.
Committee members agreed to put the ordinance accepting and appropriating the grant on for passage. Staff said adopting the ordinance will allow the Office of Environment and Sustainability to appropriate the federal funds and begin procurement and distribution processes required to replace the carts.
The committee did not record additional conditions or amendments at the meeting; the grant acceptance was moved toward approval.
