Karen Richards, who said she is running for the County Recorder's Office, introduced herself to the Clawson town council and described nearly 10 years of county service across several offices.
"I've been with the county for almost 10 years in August," Richards (speaker S8) said, summarizing work in the commissioner's office, the clerk/recorder functions, and her current role in the assessor's office. She said heavy workloads in combined offices had at times caused recording errors and late notifications to owners and title companies, and she said a priority in the recorder role would be to improve communication with owners when documents are not recordable or recorded incorrectly.
Richards told council members she has handled building permits, personal-property and real-property records and understands the volume of work counties now manage with new issues such as solar parcel filings. She recommended outreach—mail or phone calls—to owners when recording problems arise so the owner, not only the title company, is informed.
The chair thanked Richards and invited her to stay for the meeting. No formal action was taken on the appearance.
