WMSC adopts $7.585 million FY2027 budget after unanimous vote

The Washington Metrorail Safety Commission unanimously adopted its fiscal year 2027 budget and work program, approving an operating plan totaling $7,585,000 to support the agency’s federal rail safety oversight activities.
Secretary Treasurer Drummer said the finance and operations committee reviewed the final budget and recommended approval after months of staff work and coordination with jurisdictional partners. “This work program and budget will allow the organization to continue strengthening its oversight activities next year,” Drummer said.
Chief Financial Officer Mister Angie told commissioners the budget was developed under the master funding agreement and in coordination with Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. He said the operating budget aligns revenue sources year-to-year with planned expenditures to enable the WMSC’s oversight obligations.
Vice Chair Rouse and other commissioners praised staff for their work on the proposal and urged continued transparency on revenue sources. After discussion, commissioners moved and seconded the resolution to adopt the FY2027 budget and work program; the commission voted unanimously (4 yays, 0 nays).
The budget adoption will be reflected in a resolution (R-2026-04) posted on the WMSC website; commissioners said they plan to continue refining public presentations of budget and program data to aid oversight and public understanding.
