Castle Dale council approves small community requests; staff report animal control, maintenance and fire updates

At its April 9 meeting, the Castle Dale City Council approved modest community requests and received routine departmental reports from animal control, maintenance and the fire department.
Student Zoee Perea asked the council to fund her attendance at Girls State; Council member Michael Jorgensen moved and Council member Emily Mills seconded a $100 donation under existing policy, which the council approved. Perea also requested access to the indoor arena for Emery FFA’s Farm Field Day on May 5; Council member Joel Dorsch moved to waive facility fees and Council member Mills seconded, and the council approved the waiver.
Code enforcer Dustin Carter reported nine animal-control calls from March 13 to April 9: staff trapped 11 cats (nine feral animals processed through Emery Animal Health under a trap-and-return program with Best Friends assisting rehoming), returned two tame cats to owners, impounded three dogs (one reclaimed with a warning), and issued warnings and door notices rather than citations for most ordinance violations. Carter said staff are emphasizing education and voluntary compliance for leash, licensing and garbage/weed ordinances.
Maintenance Supervisor Ignacio Arrien said maintenance staff Buzz and Dustan will attend a two-day training in Vineyard, Utah, and that a temporary road base trail is being installed at the cemetery to mitigate muddy conditions; Arrien noted a permanent fix may be needed if development occurs south of the cemetery. The fire department reported recent coal and air-operations training; staff reminded residents that spring burn season increases fire risk and urged extra caution.
The council approved payment of bills and then adjourned at 7:24 p.m.
