Red Oak council accepts zoning resolution, seeks quotes for Ennis Park playground fencing

Zoning Administrator Jackie Johnson presented Resolution 2026-02; Commissioner Scott Briley moved to accept the resolution and Commissioner Tony Bennett seconded. The motion carried 3-0.
The council also reviewed correspondence from PIKE regarding plans to expand street lighting and clarified how it wishes to proceed with fixture placement and coverage. Members reviewed a thank-you letter from the Red Oak Area Historic Preservation Society acknowledging the town's continued support.
Mayor Levell Langley said parents have asked for a fence around the children's play area at Ennis Park because the parking lot is small. After discussing fence height and placement, the board agreed to contact a fencing company for a quote. Commissioner Scott Briley asked that Nash County Parks and Rec be emailed regarding the Sensory Garden and the zipline; the minutes record that staff will follow up.
The board also reviewed law-enforcement (LEO) statistics and the minutes note that Commissioner Tony Bennett said there will not be a literacy camp this year as the church is pivoting to other missions. The council approved the February regular session minutes with corrections by a 3-0 vote.
