He said the city faces liability risk if staff are not adequately trained or supervised.
"Our fire department needs an audit," Jones said. "People need to have real conversations with what's going on there."
Other commenters questioned whether personnel at the scene were wearing turnout gear and noted bystanders entered the work area while chainsaws were running. A caller who watched body-camera video and reviewed a mayoral letter asked whether the department could implement an incident-command center and formal debriefing; fire leadership said a debrief was conducted the Monday after the incident.
A department representative (speaker 2) acknowledged concerns about turnout gear and said stabilizers and available equipment were used; he said personnel coordinated with EMS and monitored the patient. Police/incident leadership (speaker 10, identified at the meeting as chief Cartel) urged members to read the chief's written response before drawing conclusions and said lessons for training and equipment procurement were identified.
Council members and other speakers urged creating vendor contacts (crane services) on short notice and running additional scenario-based training. Officials said they will follow up with additional training opportunities and circulate the written incident response letter that has already been provided to council.
