A staff member (S1) described a signed MOU framework with the town of Fairfield that would allow Fairfield to site an annual yard-debris shipping event for town and surrounding unincorporated residents; under the structure staff said the town would front contractor costs and the county would reimburse up to 75% of eligible costs. "The county does provide 75% cost reimbursement as the town provides the upfront cost," S1 said, and staff said the MOU will appear on next week’s agenda for formal consideration.
Agency official (S4) summarized recent tire-recycling events in the northern area and Colbert, saying one event collected about 7,000 tires and that Liberty Tire partnered to haul them. Staff listed upcoming collection dates, including a Fairfield event (9 a.m.–2 p.m.) this Saturday and an event in Deer Park in October, and urged outreach to ensure residents know the dates.
During a question-and-answer exchange, a meeting participant (S5) asked whether the county accepts lithium batteries from electric vehicles. S4 said the county does not accept EV car batteries because of volatility, storage and shipment challenges; S4 said the county accepts standard vehicle (lead-acid) car batteries and that many residents exchange batteries at auto-parts stores to avoid core charges.
No formal action was taken at the morning session; staff told the board the Fairfield MOU will be added to next week’s agenda for the commissioners’ consideration.
