Council authorizes tax-fixing agreements to resolve two litigation matters after executive session
Summary
After executive session on two litigation matters (Bristol Neighborhood Development Corporation v. City of Bristol and Housing Authority of the City of Bristol v. City of Bristol), the council voted to resolve both cases in accordance with attached tax-fixing agreements and authorized the city assessor to adjust the 2023 grand list.
Following two executive sessions to discuss pending litigation, the council took public action to resolve both matters in accordance with tax-fixing agreements presented during the session.
For HHB-CV-25-609748118S (Bristol Neighborhood Development Corporation v. City of Bristol) and HHB-CV-25-6096931 (Housing Authority of the City of Bristol v. City of Bristol), motions were brought forward directing the city assessor to adjust the 2023 grand list as specified in the attached settlement documents and authorizing the mayor or acting mayor to execute the agreements on the city’s behalf. The motions were approved by the council.
Corporation counsel had identified staff and outside counsel who would attend executive session for informational purposes. The council recorded that no votes were taken while in executive session and that any actions required would be taken in public session; the settlement authorizations were then made publicly after reconvening.
