Mayor Michelle Weiss gave an operations-focused report noting city leadership had attended a culture-centered training and that the city will provide ALICE (Alert-Lockdown-Inform-Counter-Evacuate) active-shooter training for administrative and building-and-housing staff later this month.
"The directors and city council attended a leadership training which centered around culture," Mayor Weiss said. She added that ALICE training will be conducted annually and that additional safety trainings are possible in the future.
Weiss also reported multiple water-main breaks across the city during the frigid weather, citing repair work at a Warrenville/Meadowbrook break and urging residents to use caution on streets affected by the outages.
On governance, Weiss said the council is now fully seated and announced a council retreat scheduled for Feb. 10 to discuss strategy and the legislative agenda. She read committee assignments: Council Person Marshall will chair the Safety Committee; the Service and Utilities Committee will be chaired by Council Person Saxs; Weiss said she will chair Finance with Council Person Weisman as a member; Building and Housing will be chaired by Miss Wiser; Community Outreach will be chaired by Mr. King; Recreation will be chaired by Mr. Stokes; and an "open committee" will be chaired by Mr. Weisman with specified members and alternates. The mayor also said the planning commission alternate will be addressed later in the agenda.
What happens next: staff training dates will be scheduled and the council will meet for its retreat on Feb. 10 to finalize strategy and any new committee business.
