Burr Ridge police: suspect charged with murder after domestic-violence victim dies

The Burr Ridge Police Chief updated the board on Feb. 24 about a domestic-violence incident and subsequent criminal charges.
According to the chief, police were called to a home in the 9100 block of Madison on Friday, Feb. 21 at 6:38 p.m. for a reported domestic battery. Officers arrested Oscar Rodriguez Jr., 37, after he was stopped by the Illinois State Police and brought to the Burr Ridge station. With assistance from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, Rodriguez was initially charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of aggravated domestic battery. The chief said the victim later died and the charges were upgraded to first-degree murder; pre-trial release was denied and Rodriguez is being held at the DuPage County Jail pending his next court date.
The chief asked for limited public comment out of respect for the family and thanked the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office and Burr Ridge detectives for their work. He said the investigation is ongoing and that further details cannot be released at this time.
Next steps: The case remains under investigation; the chief said he will provide updates as allowed by the pending prosecution.
