Waldwick names pool manager, confirms lifeguard slate and sets June 20 opening

Clerk reported that the council will appoint Brian Doyle as Waldwick—s pool manager for the 2026 season and that lifeguard appointments are ongoing, with 18 returning staff and four new hires confirmed so far.

The appointments came with a schedule: opening day was set for Saturday, June 20, with daily hours of 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Early-bird online registration will open Tuesday, May 26 at 9 a.m. and continue through Sunday, July 5; registration moves to the seasonal rate starting Monday, July 6. The clerk said assistant pool-manager interviews are still under way and that the council will bring additional lifeguard appointment resolutions at the May 26 and June 9 meetings.

Why it matters: the pool is a central borough recreation offering and requires certified staff and public sign-ups to operate safely. Finance Committee chair Martinello disputed social-media reports that the pool had a budget problem or that hiring was being withheld, saying the municipal budget passed at the last meeting provides the authority to proceed.

Clerk provided background on Brian Doyle—s qualifications, saying he served as an assistant pool manager in neighboring towns and holds required certifications; the clerk also announced swim-team appointments, naming Meredith and Mikaela as coach and assistant coach and said additional information on sign-ups would be posted online.

Council next steps: the council will continue appointing lifeguards at its scheduled meetings and finalize assistant pool-manager recommendations at the May 26 meeting. The clerk said personnel materials and applications may be submitted by email to the borough office for processing.
