Board approves upgrade to allow liquor sales at longtime local club

The Carroll County License Commissioners approved an upgrade to a club license that will allow some canned spirits and mixed drinks at special events, after the club’s representative described safety measures and event controls.
Mr. Graves, representing the club that reports a membership of roughly 100 and a long community history, told commissioners the venue has used wristbands, hand stamps and doormen to check IDs and that bartenders are instructed to card patrons. "We check IDs at the door... the bartenders are instructed to also card at the bar," he said, describing training plaques on the wall and courses completed by member bartenders.
Commissioners asked about a pistol range on the property and whether alcohol is served during shooting events; Mr. Graves said the range is closed when shooting events occur and the bar is not open for those events. A motion to approve the upgrade to a beer, wine and liquor club license was made and seconded; commissioners voted in favor by voice with no opposition.
The approval allows the club to add liquor to its license for special events that are open to the public, subject to the board's standard controls on ID checks and event supervision.
