Resident urges county action on sediment runoff from nearby development; county engineer to coordinate with city and DNR

During the public‑comment portion of the meeting, a resident identifying herself as Cindy described substantial off‑site sedimentation entering private culverts and drainage ditches after grading and construction at a nearby development.

Cindy said contractors had removed about 15 truckloads of silt from a culvert but that sediment continued to fill private drainage and was encroaching up embankments and near septic outfalls. She provided photographs to the Iowa DNR and asked the county for guidance and help removing the silt from the south side of the culvert to prevent repeated backups.

County staff member Andy responded that the drainage originates in a city development north of Green View and Franklin, and that Victoria Drive is a private road not maintained by Secondary Roads. "My recommendation would be that the county does not send our staff down there to clean it out," Andy said, but he committed to contact the city engineer and work with the Iowa DNR and the city to develop a remediation plan.

Board members agreed the developer and city need to be engaged and asked Andy to keep the board apprised of next steps. No formal county cleanup was authorized at the meeting; staff said responsibility will be pursued with the city and state regulators.
