Manvel City Council certifies May 2 election and swears in mayor, two council members

Tammy, who presented the canvass to the council, said 942 ballots were cast in the election. "For the mayor, he received 842 votes," Tammy said. She reported Harry Oplagger received 783 votes; both were described in the presentation as running unopposed. For council member Place 5, Tammy reported Jason Albert won with 490 votes to JT Thompson's 373. Tammy said canvass documents and precinct data are posted on the city website and were provided in council packets.
The council voted to approve the canvass after a motion by Councilman Bonner and a second from Councilman Rossy Knox; the motion passed unanimously. The approval formalizes the election totals reported by the city staff and enables issuance of certificates of election.
Following the canvass, the council issued certificates of election and Judge Simon administered the oath of office to the declared winners. Those named in the certificate and sworn in were Dan Davis as mayor, Harry Oplagger as council member Place 3, and Jason Albert as council member Place 5. Each recited the statutory oath of office, including the closing words "So help me God."
There was also a brief consent-agenda action early in the meeting: a council member moved to approve the consent agenda with a clarification that the Meridiana entry should read "section 43." Councilman Bonner seconded that motion, which passed unanimously before the canvass.
With no further business after the oath administration, Jason Albert moved to adjourn; the mayor pro tem seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The special meeting concluded after the adjournment vote.
The council did not take additional actions on policy items during the special called session. The canvass and the issuance of certificates complete the formal post-election steps recorded at this meeting.
