Lodi Board of Education elects Nancy Cardone president, approves personnel item at reorganization meeting

During nominations, Mr. Canazarero nominated Nancy Cardone for board president; with no further nominations, the board held a roll-call vote. The members present — Michael Apella, Mr. Bautista, Mr. Canazarero, Nancy Cardone, Dr. Sema, Mr. Lefranka, Sharon Salvation and William Thomas — each recorded a "yes," and Cardone was declared president. Following that, the board nominated and elected Dr. Sema as vice president by roll-call vote with all present voting yes.
The board proceeded to review resolutions and read the code of ethics promulgated by the New Jersey School Boards Association (the text cited was reproduced by the board). Board members took turns reading sections of the code aloud; during the roll-call on the resolutions a single abstention was recorded on item 16 by Mr. Lefranka, as noted on the record.
Under personnel business, the board considered item P1 listed on the agenda (personnel action). A motion and second were made and the item passed on a roll-call vote with the board members present voting in favor.
Board members used the remainder of the meeting for brief announcements. Board member Mr. Lefranka thanked teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week and highlighted upcoming district events: the all-district concert at Felician University on May 14, a TJMS and Lodi High School choir concert on May 21, and a Columbus School car wash on May 16 that benefits fifth-grade students. Dr. Sema congratulated the newly elected members and expressed anticipation of working with the board.
The board noted there would be no executive session and approved a motion to adjourn.
