Barrington 220 board unanimously approves paper contract renewal, multiple policy updates and sheriff reporting agreement

The Barrington CUSD 220 Board of Education on May 5 voted unanimously to renew a cooperative paper-purchasing contract, adopt several district policies on second reading and approve a reciprocal reporting agreement with the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
Board members approved the consent agenda earlier in the meeting and then moved to the paper contract renewal, described by administration as a cooperative bid that renews prior purchasing relationships (vendors named in discussion included Midland and Garvey's). Administration said final pricing will reflect an upcoming Consumer Price Index adjustment and that the district will gain modest revenue as lead of the cooperative when other districts join.
"We're saving dollars and we're also generating not a ton of money, but a little bit of money being the lead on this contract," a district staff presenter said during the discussion. The motion to approve the paper contract was made, seconded and passed with a roll-call vote in which all seven board members recorded "yes." The board then took a single second-reading vote to adopt several policies: Policy 220 (school board meeting procedure); Policy 2550 (access to district public records); Policy 535 (Fair Labor Standards Act compliance); Policy 550 (drug, alcohol-free workplace; e-cigarette, tobacco and cannabis prohibition); Policy 5250 (leaves of absence); Policy 665 (student social and emotional development); and Policy 6170 (Title I programs). The consolidated motion passed on roll call with all members voting yes.
Finally, trustees approved a reciprocal reporting agreement with the Lake County Sheriff's Office to formalize coordination with local law enforcement. Administration noted the district already maintains similar agreements with many municipalities and that staff and the director of safety and security have continued to expand interagency cooperation.
Each action was recorded in the public minutes with a unanimous roll-call vote; no member voted against or abstained on these items. The board did not debate any of the items to a point of amendment and asked staff to continue to develop cooperative and safety partnerships where needed.
