Saline County proclaims National Economic Development Week and honors local scholarship recipients

The Saline County Board of Commissioners on May 5 proclaimed May 4–8, 2026 as National Economic Development Week and recognized local economic‑development efforts that support jobs, entrepreneurship and community investment.
Mitch Robinson, identified as executive director of the Salina area economic development organization, and Renee (economic development staff) described local initiatives, upcoming entrepreneur meetings and small‑business supports. The proclamation also noted the 100th anniversary of the International Economic Development Council and encouraged local engagement in career and business development activities.
In conjunction with the proclamation, the commission recognized seven recipients of the Oliver Hag Memorial Scholarship, each awarded a $1,000 renewable scholarship for students pursuing agriculture‑related studies. Recipients who introduced themselves included Jaylen Cheeks (Salina South), Jaylen Gates (Salina South), Jocelyn Taylor (Ellsen High School), Lake Walker (Ellsen High School), Gon Jacobson (Southeast Aseline High School) and Noah Peek (Salina Central High School). Commissioners and the audience applauded the students.
The motion to proclaim Economic Development Week passed by voice vote.
