Kandiyohi Extension reports growth in 4‑H and master‑gardener activities

Regional Extension Director Trish Sheen and local educators gave an update to the County Board May 5 highlighting youth outreach and volunteer efforts. Sheen said Extension programming reached more than 700 youth in Kandiyohi County and emphasized partnerships across schools and community organizations.
Kylie Shared (Extension educator) said the county supports 11 community 4‑H clubs with about 194 enrolled members and 289 youth engaged through site‑based (school and partner) programming. She also noted growing participation in shooting‑sports and arts/fine‑arts camps planned for the summer.
Master gardener and master naturalist programs remain active: staff reported about 25 master gardeners and 12 master naturalists in the county contributing hundreds of service hours; local projects include a community garden and a program that grew tomatoes and other produce for distribution through "Hope for Our City."
Ending: Extension asked commissioners to help promote volunteer recruitment and noted summer showcases, day camps and a county fair presence.
