Saint Paul, Minn. — Representative Long (Hennepin) pressed House leadership on May 12 about the status of Senate File 4067, a comprehensive gun violence prevention package, saying it had been nine days since the Senate sent the measure and asking why it had not been allowed to move through committee.
"It has been 9 days since the Senate sent over Senate File 4067, which is the comprehensive gun violence prevention package," Representative Long said on the House floor, asking the Speaker to explain the bill's location and how it would reach committee consideration.
The Speaker replied that "that bill is being reviewed and it will move through at the appropriate time," and declined to provide a specific timeline. Long told colleagues the limited number of remaining legislative days added urgency to the request and said Democrats would caucus during the recess if the body recessed.
Earlier on the calendar the chief clerk reported first readings of several House files (House Files 5140–5143) and the Committee on Rules and Legislative Administration scheduled Senate File 3720 to be placed on the calendar for Thursday, May 14, 2026, with a prefiling requirement for amendments.
Representative Niska moved that the House recess "to the call of the Speaker." The motion was adopted and the chamber recessed; Representative Long and other Democrats said they would meet in caucus during the break.
No formal action on Senate File 4067 was recorded on the floor during the session. The Speaker indicated the bill remained under review; Representative Long urged that it be moved forward before the session ends.
The House had opened with a guest chaplain prayer delivered by Pastor Ryan Briley of Central Lutheran Church and approved the previous day's journal before proceeding to introductions and the committee report.
