Board approves county building lighting audit after energy provider offers 80% grant for LED upgrades

An energy‑efficiency program that covers roughly 80% of the cost to convert lighting in eligible county facilities won preliminary approval from the Adams County Board of Supervisors.
Justin Cochrell, representing the energy program, told the board the initiative pays an 80% incentive (not a bill credit) toward LED upgrades for qualifying facilities and that an engineer can perform a free lighting audit at county buildings. Cochrell said roughly 28 accounts in the county appear to be eligible based on usage and that most facility projects are below the program cap, which commonly keeps the 80/20 split intact.
Supervisors voted to authorize the engineer to survey county buildings and report back at a future meeting. The board asked the county administrator to coordinate with department contacts to prioritize buildings where the upgrades would produce the largest savings.
Cochrell said the program provides a project-level savings/payback analysis after an audit; he offered to return to present findings to the board at a subsequent meeting. The motion passed by voice vote with supervisors instructing staff to prepare a prioritized list of candidate facilities for the audit.
