The Sweetwater Union High School District Board of Education reported several personnel actions taken during a closed session before its May 11 meeting, announcing four principal appointments and affirming a dismissal.
President Solis reported the board, in closed session, approved the appointment of Jose Luis Vargas as principal of Southwest High School, Julisa Gracias as principal of Hilltop High School, Dean Nefarete as principal of Launch Virtual Academy, and Andy Traas as principal on special assignment for the adult school. The board also affirmed the termination and dismissal charges for a classified employee; legal staff were directed to draft a decision approving the dismissal.
Each item was moved, seconded and announced with roll-call votes reported publicly by the chair. The board approved the closed-session report outs by voice and then moved on to the open-meeting agenda.
The meeting packet and staff announcements included no further detail in the public report about the reasons for the disciplinary action or the classified employee's identity; the board indicated that personnel specifics had been considered in closed session under provisions of the Education Code and applicable government codes.
The board proceeded to its regular agenda after confirming the closed-session actions.
