Key corrections: Board members flagged a duplicate line in the PBIS expectations chart ("keep hands and feet to self" appeared twice) and requested clearer language about cafeteria "voice levels" so parents and students understand when a voice level of "one" applies (for example, when the whistle sounds to signal tray cleanup). Board members also asked staff to add the word "days" to disciplinary ranges that currently list numbers, and to mark optional supply items so families are not obligated to purchase nonessential materials.
Supply lists and optional items: Elementary staff said they had revised supply lists to mark optional items (for example, tissues and hand sanitizer) to reduce costs for families with multiple children. Board members asked that staff revisit supply lists at the start of next school year and capture classroom feedback so lists are not repeated with unnecessary items.
Approvals: After the corrections discussed at the meeting, the board moved and approved the Aldo Leopold handbook with the specified fixes and then approved the elementary handbooks by voice vote.
What remains: Staff will edit the handbook pages to fix typographical issues, clarify cafeteria and bus-line voice-level examples, add "days" to disciplinary ranges, and remove Marissa Ripple from a prior assistant-principal listing where appropriate. The board will review any further administrative handbook changes at the June 1 meeting.
