Resident urges council to pass revised e‑bike ordinance, citing family mobility and safety

During community comment, Chowen Park resident Taylor Bresnahan spoke in favor of the city’s return of a revised e‑bike ordinance and urged the council to approve it when it returns for consideration.
Bresnahan described using an e‑cargo bike with his one‑ and three‑year‑old children to replace a second car and to stay connected to neighbors. He told the council that in many parts of Edina he and his children are pushed onto sidewalks because adjacent streets lack safe low‑speed bike facilities. “This law says, ‘Buy another car, take your kids out of the community, and put them back in car seats,’” he said, arguing that the ordinance should not prevent families from safely traveling to parks, the library and 50th & France.
Mayor Hovland thanked Bresnahan for the perspective and noted the council will consider the ordinance when it returns to the agenda. The comment was not followed by immediate council action; the council will have future opportunity for debate during the ordinance process.
