North Miami proclaims Public Works Week, honors retirees; council urges boating and hurricane safety

"We appreciate you, we love you," Vice Mayor Timothy said while presenting certificates to the retirees.
Councilman Kevin Burns read a proclamation for National Safe Boating Week and presented it to Natalie Bunning of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Bunning urged boaters to take safety classes, avoid alcohol when operating vessels and "wear a life jacket," saying paddlecraft deaths have been rising.
Andrew Rivera, speaking for the police department, told residents hurricane season is approaching and urged preparation, noting the city will finalize readiness exercises later in the month and that officers will attend neighborhood HOAs to discuss preparedness.
Those recognitions and safety reminders were ceremonial and informational; the council did not take separate binding action on public-safety ordinances at the meeting.
