Corsicana ISD certifies May 2 election; trustees sworn in and officers named

The board had recorded total votes cast of 1,027; Michael Jones received 443 votes, Dr. Seth Brown received 561 votes for Place 1, and Kamar Chambers received 878 votes for Place 2. "I certify the figures on the tally sheets correspond with the figures on the returns," Farmer said during the canvass.
Following certification, the board administered the oath of office. Newly elected trustees Dr. Seth Brown and Kamar Chambers each repeated the oath to "faithfully execute the duties of the office" and to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and this state." No roll-call vote was recorded for the oath; the administration of the oath is a formal ceremony following certification.
In open session the board approved a motion to hire Litra Baker as assistant principal at Navo Elementary; the motion carried by voice vote and the board welcomed Baker.
The board also reorganized its officers. A motion to appoint Brad Farmer as president passed by voice vote. Kathy Branch was nominated and approved as vice president, and Melissa Castillo was approved as board secretary. Each officer appointment was approved following a motion and second; the meeting record shows these were voice votes rather than recorded individual tallies.
The meeting then approved the consent agenda by voice vote and moved into a closed session permitted under the Texas Government Code.
