Perkins delays Parks & Recreation board selection after six applicants speak

Perkins commissioners on April 14 heard from applicants for a vacancy on the Parks & Recreation Board and agreed to delay making a selection until next month to allow applicants who had left because of weather to speak.
Parks and Recreation Director Trent confirmed six letters of interest had been received for the opening. The mayor and commissioners described a selection-committee approach — recommended by staff — to allow commissioners time to review materials before choosing a nominee.
Two applicants addressed the commission that night. Haley Holtman introduced herself, noted local ties and volunteer experience, and said she wanted to become more involved as her son grows older. Jake Phillips, who lives in Stillwater but said he has settled locally, described a background in parks-and-recreation and coaching and said he would like to give back as his children grow up. Commissioners thanked both applicants and said the commission would hear from those who left for weather at the next meeting.
The commission will take up a final selection at the next regular meeting after commissioners review submitted letters and afford absent applicants an opportunity to speak in person.
