Perkins commissioners declare two ward vacancies and swear in interim commissioners

The Perkins City Commission declared vacancies for Ward 2 and Ward 4 on April 14 after no candidates filed during the February filing period, then unanimously appointed and swore in interim commissioners to serve until the next general election.
Mayor Amanda opened the meeting and led a motion to declare the two vacancies, saying the step was necessary because “no one filed on the filing date in February.” The motion passed with all five commissioners voting yes.
The commission then moved to appoint Justin Hener as interim commissioner for Ward 4; the motion was seconded and approved by the three commissioners eligible to vote on that appointment. Later the commission approved the appointment of Sarah Dickerson to serve as interim commissioner for Ward 2.
Both appointees took the oath of office at the meeting. Sarah Dickerson repeated the oath, “I, Sarah Dickerson, do solemnly swear or affirm that I will support, obey, and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Oklahoma,” and Justin Hener repeated the same oath on his swearing.
The mayor and commissioners said the interim appointments will remain in place until the seats are filled in the next general election, at which point voters will elect someone to complete the unexpired terms.
