The superintendent announced that the district will take part in a countywide active-shooter drill at Jackson High School on May 27, involving multiple local agencies and planned role players.
"It's going to be an active shooter drill May 27," Superintendent (S2) said, and he added that the county sheriff's office, Jackson Police Department and Jackson Fire and Rescue would be involved alongside district staff. He said the district has been planning the exercise for months and will publicly communicate that the event is a drill while not providing full operational details in advance.
The superintendent said some teachers and students will take voluntary roles as victims or participants and that participants can opt out. He also said the district will use school camera footage for review and that officers will have body cameras. Trustees asked about law-enforcement involvement and the district confirmed multiple agencies will participate and that a detailed "hot wash" after the drill will help identify improvements.
The district said it will share additional information with staff and families, and that board members would receive logistical details, such as parking passes, ahead of graduation events the following week.
