Butts County board clears consent agenda including student services contracts, WAN hub move and Oct. event

On student support services, the superintendent described a set of contracts totaling allocations of $2,103,100 for speech services and related supports, with three providers for speech therapy: CBR Therapy, Illumina and Stepping Stones. He said the Stepping Stones contract is for $105,000. He also said the district will contract school psychologist services at $130,000 that will be paid out of district funds and later reimbursed by Medicaid. Other contracts mentioned included a staff-care partner (paid from IDEA funds) budgeted at $160,000 and Vena Nursing Services to provide one-on-one nursing support at $110,000.
The board also approved a facility-use request from Decade Days LLC, coordinated through the Chamber of Commerce, to host an October festival using the gymnasium, Hall of Fame and parking lot Oct. 2–4, 2026; the superintendent said the promoter would handle security. Two travel items were included: district buses to transport children to a Salvation Army summer camp in Pickens County (June 22–27), with the requesting group covering driver and mileage costs; and Jackson High School’s volleyball team to attend a camp at Emory University July 20–22, paid by team fees and fundraising.
