Butts County board approves tentative budget for advertisement amid rising pension and health costs

The superintendent cited three main cost pressures: an increase in the TRS employer rate to about 22.32% (up from roughly 21.9% as stated), a rise in per-employee state health contributions from about $18.85 to $20.28 per month, and routine teacher step increases and higher utilities. He emphasized the advertised document is likely to change during the upcoming budget retreat and after the district receives final state allotments.

Board members moved and seconded the motion to approve advertising the tentative budget; the chair called the vote and recorded "5 yeses," approving the motion to advertise the tentative budget for public notice. The superintendent said the board will review the budget line-by-line at a retreat in the first week of June and hold an open meeting for public input before final adoption.
